Already in the 1820s, the Royal Porcelain Factory produced small copies of Thorvaldsen's portrait busts of Frederik the Sixth and Prince Christian Frederik (later Christian the 8th) and with Thorvaldsen's popularity in the contemporary era there was a market for these goods.

From 1838, production was intensified and a large number of bisque figures of Thorvaldsen's works were produced. From 1850, the figures came in several sizes and later Bing & Grondahl (founded in 1853) also began producing copies of Thorvaldsen's works.

Biscuit is unglazed porcelain.
